Find the pincode of my location

Use your phone or laptop location to see your pin code and the nearest post offices.

Find the pincode of my location in one tap with the button below. It uses your device location to show your most likely 6-digit pin code and the post offices nearest to you, with the distance to each.

How to find the pin code of my current location

  1. Tap Find the pincode of my location.
  2. Your browser asks if this site can use your location. Tap Allow.
  3. Wait a few seconds. The top line shows your pincode. Below it you see up to eight nearby post offices with their pin codes and how far away they are.
  4. Tap a pincode to open its page. There you can check all post offices that share it, the district and the state.

Your location is used only to look up nearby post offices. It is not saved on this site.

The same steps give you the postal code of my location or the zip code of my location, as some forms call it. In India, all of these simply mean the 6 digit pin code of my location.

Why the result says "most likely"

A pincode covers an area, not a single point. The tool finds the post office closest to you and shows its pincode. In most places that is your pincode. But a delivery area does not always follow distance. You may live closer to one post office while your mail comes from another.

So treat the result as a strong first guess. Then confirm it with one of these:

  • A letter, bill or bank statement that came to your home.
  • Your Aadhaar, ration card or gas connection papers.
  • Your postman or the nearest post office.
  • Neighbours who get regular post or online orders.

Tips for a more accurate result

  • Turn on GPS. On a phone, switch on location and keep "precise location" on for your browser.
  • Go near a window or outside. GPS works poorly deep inside large buildings.
  • Use a phone, not a desktop. A laptop on Wi-Fi may only know your rough area, which can be a few kilometres off.
  • Turn off VPN. A VPN can make the browser think you are in another city.

If the location button does not work

If you denied permission by mistake, open your browser settings, find this site under location, and set it to allow. Then reload the page and try again.

If you are outside India, the tool cannot help, because it only knows Indian post offices. If it says no post office was found nearby, you may be in a remote area. In that case, search by your village, town or post office name on the home page.

Post office near me

The list under your pincode is also a quick way to find an India Post office near me. Each name links to its own page. There you can see if it is a head office, sub office or branch office, and whether it delivers mail.

Not every post office offers every service. Small branch offices in villages mostly handle letters, savings accounts and money orders. For speed post near me, parcel booking and passport related services, a head office or sub office is usually the better choice. Check the post office timings before you go, and ask the counter if you need a specific service.

My pin code and DIGIPIN

India Post has also launched DIGIPIN. It is a 10-character code for a small square of land, about 4 metres by 4 metres, worked out from latitude and longitude. DIGIPIN does not replace the pincode. Your postal address still needs the normal 6-digit pin code. DIGIPIN only adds a more exact spot, which can help in places with no clear house number.

My area pin code when I move house

If you have just moved, your old pincode will not work for the new home. Find the new one with the button above, then confirm it with the local post office. Update it with your bank, Aadhaar, gas agency and shopping apps. Mail sent with the old pincode may go to your old delivery office first, which adds delay.

What is my current pin code used for

You need your pin code for almost every form and delivery:

  • Online shopping and food delivery checks if they serve your area.
  • Bank, insurance, PAN and Aadhaar forms ask for it in the address.
  • Couriers and India Post use it to send your parcel to the right office.

Once you know your pincode, learn how to write your address correctly so letters and parcels reach you without delay. To understand what the six digits mean, read what is a pin code.
