Data and Editorial Policy

People use pincodes to send letters, fill forms and place orders, so a wrong number causes real trouble. This page explains how we keep Pincode Office accurate.

The directory data

  • Source: the all-India post office directory published by India Post on data.gov.in (Government Open Data License, India). It lists each office with its pincode, type, delivery status, division, region, circle, district, state and map position.
  • Cleaning: we fix spelling and case, fill a missing district from other offices with the same pincode, and remove map positions that clearly fall far outside the office’s own district.
  • Updates: we reload the directory when India Post publishes a new version. Offices open, close and merge, so if a detail matters, confirm it with your post office.
  • Maps and distances: map positions come from the directory and can be approximate. Distances between pincodes are straight-line distances, not road distances.

Guides and calculators

  • Facts in our guides, such as scheme rules, limits and timings, are checked against official sources: India Post, India Post Payments Bank, the National Savings Institute and Ministry of Finance notices.
  • Small savings interest rates are set by the government every quarter. Our calculators use the current rates, and we update them when a new quarter’s rates are announced. Your passbook or certificate is the final word on what you earn.
  • We do not give financial advice. Rules can change, so check at your post office before you invest.
